Bike Buddy

We all know that small steps and everyday changes can make a big difference in the race to Net Zero but might need some additional support or encouragement to implement changes in our daily routines.

Let’s Go Tees Valley encourages people who live and work in the Tees Valley to leave their cars at home and use greener, more active ways to travel on their day-to-day journeys.

Whether you choose to walk, cycle, or use public transport or car share more often, everyday changes like this can help to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, and help us have happier, healthier communities.

Let’s Go Tees Valley’s latest initiative, the Bike Buddy Scheme, offers support to those who are interested in cycling more, but are discouraged by not being familiar with the route or are perhaps anxious about certain aspects of the journey.

The buddy scheme offers a one-to-one service including route planning, a guided ride from home to a chosen location, as well as cycle training along the way.

The service aims to remove the reliance on motorised vehicles and give people the confidence they need to hit the roads by bike.

It’s estimated that 100 local people will benefit from the support available. That potentially means that more than 35,000 daily commutes could be made by bike instead of car each year!

Let’s Go Tees Valley is funded by the Department of Transport’s Access Fund; supported by the Tees Valley Mayor and Combined Authority. The programme is delivered across the Tees Valley by the Local Authorities for Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland, and Stockton-On-Tees.
