News > Award-Winning Company Joins Tees Valley Careers Initiative As It Hits 1,000 Business Target

A Hartlepool-based logistics company has become the 1,000th business to support the TeesValleyCareers.com initiative, helping to raise ambitions and improve the career prospects of local young people.
Hogg Global Logistics was named Best New Business at the recent Tees Businesswomen Awards and the firm has now been praised for making the pledge to offer invaluable careers support to local students by signing up to TeesValleyCareers.com.
The international freight-forwarding firm will be helping secondary school and college students make key decisions about their future career pathways and build their confidence and knowledge of the labour market.
Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen established the £3million TeesValleyCareers.com initiative in 2018 with a target of engaging up 1,000 Tees Valley businesses to support the region’s 100,000 11-18-year-olds, giving them high-quality careers guidance along with substantial contact with a wide range of local businesses across all sectors.
Studies show that just four engagements with the world of work significantly reduces a pupil’s chance of being unemployed and that, on average, they earn 22% more than those who have not engaged.
The target was smashed during National Careers Week, which runs to 6 March, and provides a focus for careers guidance activity ahead of the Tees Valley’s virtual Careers Expo, taking place on 18 March.
Lyndsay Hogg, Founder and CEO of Hogg Global Logistics said: “As a business we are incredibly passionate about what we do and welcome any opportunity to use our knowledge and experience to help power-forward the shipping industry, which is going from strength to strength in the Tees Valley.
“Not only does TeesValleyCareers.com offer an opportunity to help nurture the future workforce and talent pool locally, but more importantly it’s a chance to give something back and make a real difference to the pathway for a local young person and shape their future – which is incredibly special.
“As a mum, I know just how important it is to have opportunities available locally and visible role models to help raise aspirations and show the next generation what the future could hold.”
Mayor Houchen presented Lyndsay with the ‘Best New Business’ accolade at the virtual Tees Businesswomen Awards.
He said: “The TeesValleyCareers.com initiative has been a massive success with schools, pupils and businesses all singing its praises for being a rewarding, helpful and informative scheme that benefits students and our fantastic companies. To hit our target of engaging 1,000 businesses in National Careers Week is the icing on the cake.
“It was a pleasure to present Lyndsay with her award at the recent Tees Businesswomen Awards and to hear about the work Hogg Global Logistics do. Lyndsay is a local businesswoman at the helm of an internationally facing company, operating out of our region, and is exactly the type of role model we need to inspire the next generation and build the local talent pool from the ground up.
“I would encourage any local business who would like to get involved with TeesValleyCareers.com, whether that’s through offering a work placement, or simply engaging with a young person to tell them about opportunities in the sector, to sign up this National Careers Week.”
