A rapidly growing health and safety building compliance firm that counts the likes of the world renowned five-star Ritz hotel in London among its clients welcomed Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen to its Darlington headquarters.
Eton Environmental Group was established in 2004 by husband-and-wife team Christian and Joanna Shaefer. It began life as an asbestos surveying company before diversifying into other areas, including providing other health & safety building compliance services, such as fire risk assessments, energy performance certificates and legionella risk assessments.
During this time, the company has grown from employing eight asbestos surveyors to its current 60-strong team, boasting a turnover of £4.5mllion.
The Mayor visited the firm at its Darlington base, which also includes an accredited asbestos testing laboratory, to meet director Christian. On top of its Darlington headquarters, the company has satellite offices in Manchester, Birmingham and Windsor.
The firm, which was brought in to consult during the multimillion-pound transformation of Teesside Airport’s terminal building, has also worked with the Ritz, plus the NHS and the Crown Estate.
Mayor Houchen said: “Since its creation, Eton Environmental has gone from strength to strength, working hard to diversify and add even more value and expertise. This is being recognised with an ever-growing list of household-name clients, helping to put it – and our region – on the map.
“It was great to meet the team and hear how far they have come and the plans for the future. It is yet another success story for our region, which proves that you don’t need to go anywhere else to grow a thriving business.”
Christian Shaefer, Director at Eton Environmental Group, said: “We were delighted to welcome Ben and to be able to share the story of Eton Environmental’s growth with him. We have come a long way since we started trading in 2004 and are proud to have our roots firmly in the Tees Valley and to be making our own contribution to the local economy.
“The vast majority of our staff are based at our head office in Darlington and from here we provide our health and safety building compliance services to some very well-known brands and institutions, such as the O2, River Island and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.”
