Guisborough, Hartlepool and Transport Benefit From Huge £54Million Injection

A boost of almost £18million for vital transport projects in the Tees Valley has been confirmed.

The Tees Valley Combined Authority bid to the Levelling Up Fund has seen £17.7million granted for walking and cycling infrastructure in all five of the region’s boroughs.

Hartlepool has also received £16.5million for its exciting Production Village vision aiming to regenerate the Church Street area of the town. This offers great support to the proposed Hartlepool Development Corporation due to be established in the coming weeks.

Redcar will also receive £20million – including £15million for public realm improvements in Guisborough, improved access to Teesworks and the North York Moors National Park, as well as £4.8million to unlock housing at Newham Grange.

Money from the combined authority bid will provide connections between some of the region’s most in-need communities and offer better routes to work including Darlington Town Centre to Northgate, Yarm Road to Stockton Town Centre, and Redcar Town Centre to West Dyke Road.

The money was secured after a very competitive process with tight criteria to meet.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “This funding caps off another great day for Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool. Our transport vision is a vital part of allowing people the access they need to well-paid quality jobs and education – and this money will play a key role in making that vision a reality.

“It’s also fantastic to see game-changing projects in Hartlepool, ahead of the Hartlepool Development Corporation being established, Guisborough and East Cleveland getting the shot in the arm they deserve.

“We have invested in the Hartlepool Northern School of Art and its Higher Education Facility and we are serious about making the town a cultural capital and the go-to venue for filmmakers and talent. Something which will be the cornerstone of the new Hartlepool Development Corporation.

“This funding for the Production Village and the area near the station, which is currently being redeveloped, will only help our exciting plans for the town and for the people of Hartlepool.”
