Tees Valley Employment Opportunities Showcased At Skills Event

A highly interactive skills exhibition enabled young people from across Tees Valley to meet their potential future employers and learning providers to understand the skills and qualifications needed to build a career in a number of different sectors.

The Tees Valley Skills Event, was held at Teesside University on Tuesday 20th September for its fifth year.

Delivered by Tees Valley Combined Authority, in partnership with North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership (NYBEP), Teesside University and Tees Valley Learning Provider Network, it is one of the largest events of its kind in the area.

Exhibitors this year included Hitatchi, Elringklinger, EDF, Northern Powergrid and the NHS to name but a few.

Mayor Dave Budd, Chair of Tees Valley Combined Authority, said: “In order for the Tees Valley economy to grow and achieve future prosperity it is vital that young people leave school and college with a knowledge of the skills and qualifications required by different sectors.

“The event demonstrated the wide range of fulfilling careers that young people can pursue in Tees Valley and the first class training facilities we have in the area.”

Other employers exhibiting included The Royal Navy and Army, KP Snacks, Carillion, Macks Solicitors, Curo Marketing and Arlington Automotive. Learning providers included, Hartlepool College, East Durham College, Routes to Employment, National Careers Service and The Careers and Enterprise Company.

National Universities in attendance included, Coventry University Scarborough Campus, Bradford University, the University of Leeds and Teesside University.

Jo Thompson, of Tees Valley Learning Provider Network, added: “The Skills Show has provided a fantastic opportunity for young people to learn about the world of work and potential career paths they have right here in Tees Valley.

“We hope the attendees left the event with a better understanding of the skills, qualifications and personal attributes employers are looking for. The Skills Show highlighted all the options from apprenticeships and training to further education and careers.”
