Three reasons not to miss the new writing season at Middlesbrough Theatre

Itineraries | Published on: 1st September 2021

As summer draws to a close and a new season approaches, it’s time to start thinking about cosy nights in and charming nights out that will leave you with all the warm and fuzzy feelings. Which is where Middlesbrough Theatre’s new writing series comes in. Featuring a host of world and UK premieres, amazing opportunities for local creatives and guaranteed fun and fuzzies, here are three reasons why it’s not to be missed.

1.Not just a UK premiere but world premieres too!

You know it’s going to be a good start to the season when Middlesbrough Theatre plays host to two premieres. The Fiesta Fawns by local playwright, David Tuffnell, makes its world premiere and A Perfect Likeness, presented by Conn Artists, receives its UK premiere.

Both equally charming productions, The Fiesta Fawns revisits the hey-day of The Club Fiesta nightclub in Norton, while A Perfect Likeness sets the scene for Charles Dickens to meet Lewis Carroll to pose for a portrait.

2.Amazing opportunities for local creatives

Not settling for writing and producing a world premiere, David Tuffnell and his production company, less is MORE, are also presenting a series of Cabaret Evenings and Scratch Theatre nights. Tickets for both are “Pay What It’s Worth” which you decide at the end of each evening.

Musical Mondays brings together “Four Girls and a Piano” and features songs from the musicals and spooky show tunes too.

For those unfamiliar with Scratch Theatre, don’t worry. Showcasing extracts from four new plays and works in progress, all written by local writers, it’s a feast for theatre lovers to experience some genuinely innovative and new writing. It’s also a fantastic opportunity for local creatives to see their work performed on a stage.

3.Something for everyone – fun, farce and Fawns!

When we guarantee there’s something for everyone, we’re really not kidding. The new season features a true variety of fun, music, magic and farce including Not: Lady Chatterley’s Lover, a laughter-filled parody of the classic D.H. Lawrence novel which will bring you high drama, high comedy and highly-raised eyebrows.

We’ll leave you with some reviews to draw you in even further, Middlesbrough Theatre will see you soon!
